Darling, a spirited small-town girl from Mahdia, Guyana, always had an entrepreneurial spark, inspired by the hardworking examples set by both of her parents. Her first venture into business began when she was still in high school. Her father provided the startup money for her to sell sodas to classmates, family, and friends. This early venture not only ignited her passion for business but also instilled in her a sense of independence and resilience. After completing school, Darling worked alongside her mother for a few years, learning valuable skills and gaining experience that would later prove invaluable.

In search of greater opportunities, Darling moved to the USA about seven years ago. Determined to continue her education, she obtained her GED and enrolled in college. However, her plans were disrupted by the pandemic, forcing her to pause her studies. In 2021, Darling channeled her creative energy into making homemade products such as lip gloss and body scrubs. Despite her enthusiasm, this business venture was not successful. Undeterred, Darling leveraged her experience from working at her mother’s shop and landed a job as a store manager for a small business in NY in May 2021. The demanding hours soon led her to switch to babysitting, a more flexible job that allowed her to support herself while exploring other opportunities. However, a move to a different town to live with her brother resulted in another change of plans.

Struggling to find stable employment in her new location, Darling began babysitting for her brother. During this time, she decided to explore the dessert business as a side venture. On March 8, 2022, Darling officially launched her dessert business, Darling’s Desserts. Her first official order came from a friend who requested 12 slices of customizable cheesecake for her son’s first birthday. Without any prior baking experience, Darling bought the cheesecake, dipped it in chocolate, and added her own toppings. The success of this first order sparked a newfound passion for baking and business.

In 2022, Darling reconnected with James, an old friend she had lost contact with for over ten years. James, a nerdy gamer with a passion for computers and web design, had established his own business, Tech It or Leave It, which provided computer repair services, web design, and in-home service. His witty charm and charismatic personality made him popular with customers. Their rekindled connection quickly turned romantic, leading to their marriage in 2023.

The move to Florida to start their new life together temporarily paused Darling’s business as she adjusted to her new surroundings. However, just a few weeks after the move, a surprise order from James’s cousin for 12 slices of customizable cheesecake reignited her entrepreneurial spirit. James suggested they start baking everything from scratch, which led to the rebranding of her business as Cake It or Leave It. Darling expanded her offerings to include cheesecake chocolate chip cookies, which quickly became popular, garnering positive feedback from customers.

Now, Cake It or Leave It offers a wide variety of desserts with a primary focus on anything cheesecake. Their offerings include cheesecake cookies, sugar cookies, regular chocolate chip cookies and classic sponge cakes. Each product is crafted with care and passion, reflecting Darling’s dedication to quality and creativity.
